Can I search the Internet with MSN SideGuide?
You can search the Internet from within MSN SideGuide, under three categories:

* Web
* Images
* News

To search the Internet, above the search box, select either Web, Images, or News. Type a search term in the Live Search box at the top of MSN SideGuide and then click the Search button Search. A new browser window will open with your search results. In addition, any searches you perform in the browser window will also appear in MSN SideGuide.

The results that you receive depend on how you construct your search query. To help make your search more effective:

* Search for words that are likely to appear in the websites that contain the information that you want. The more specific your search words are, the more specific your results will be.
* If the first page or two of results don't provide you with what you want, or if you don't get any results at all, change your search terms. Try fewer descriptive words, or try words that have a different but similar meaning. A different word or phrase provides different search results. For example, try "alloy" instead of "metal" or "steel".
* To search for an exact phrase, place the search words in quotation marks. For example, try "chocolate cake" instead of chocolate cake.

Note :

By default, Live Search follows these rules:

* Search words for basic searches aren't case sensitive (capable of distinguishing between uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters. For example, A is different from a. If information is case sensitive, it must be typed exactly as it appears originally.) .
* It isn't necessary to type the word 'AND' between your search words. By default, all searches are AND searches. A search keyword that you can use to find results that contain all the search terms that you specify.
* Common words such as 'a', 'and', and 'the' are ignored unless they're surrounded by quotation marks. Use the 'OR' (A search keyword that you can use to find results that contain either of the search terms that you specify.) and 'NOT' (a search keyword that you can use to find results that don't contain a search term that you specify.) keywords to combine or exclude words.

For example, 'car OR truck' or 'tree NOT evergreen'.
* You can type up to 150 characters in the search box, including spaces.

Tips:

* A list of categories may appear at the top of the search results. To see the associated results, click the category .
* Some Live Search features require a specific keyword. For example, to learn the definition of a word, type define, followed by the word that you want to define.

Connecting MSN SideGuide through Firewall Software.
One of the reasons why MSN SideGuide might not be able to connect successfully is there is installed a software firewall solution that blocks outbound Internet traffic. An example of software network inhibitors include but are not limited to Norton, MacAfee, or ZoneAlarm. The MSN SideGuide application must be able to communicate outbound over the Internet to authenticate a new Internet session on the MetroFi network. As a test try disabling your blocking software and try again to connect. If it works great! Please consult your software manual on how to allow the following URL, http://ia-networkdiscovery.msn.com, to communicate over the Internet without being blocked. Then both the SideGuide application and the blocking software solution may run in parallel.
